Balzan Robbery - Crime in Malta

The bomb disposal unit was brought out after a package was found on the porch of a family home in Balzan , which turned out to contain leftover items from a five-figure robbery at a nearby house. The cash was not found and is still unaccounted for, even though the main suspect of the theft, an employee of the household, has been arrested.  They said the robbery took place on the evening of Friday 14 th December. Around 6pm a man noticed a package on his front porch and proceeded to call the police. Police came on site and closed off the area while the AFM’s Bomb Disposal Unit came   to investigate. They found that the package had no explosives. Instead, the package contained miscellaneous items including an envelope which had the figure “€60,000” written on it. The police checked the CCTV footage of a nearby residence. The 'El Chapo' Trial

Last November the " unprecedented " trial of Mexican drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman began in the federal courts of Brooklyn. The co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel faces a 17-count indictment on charges of shipping heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine to the US, to which he pleaded not guilty in January 2017. Being possibly the most notorious cartel kingpin to ever live, security was tightened for his trial, with law enforcement taking no chances. Bomb-sniffing dogs, metal detectors and a body of officers will decorate the courthouses of the famous jail-breaker. He had managed to escape out of two Mexican prisons before he was captured and extradited to the United States from Mexico on January 19, 2017. A close guard is also being kept on the jurors and witnesses, since 'El Chapo' is known to intimidate witnesses and order their murders. Judge Brian M. Cogan, who is in charge of picking out the jurors, is being extremely selective. He dismissed 27 ou

Introduction

Hello and welcome to the International Falcon!                My name is Shaznee Vella, a 17-year old University of Malta student, who like many, is interested in various topics, including crime. If it is not evident from the title, this blog discusses some of the most infamous crimes, local and international, of the 20 th and 21 st centuries.                From a young age I read up on several fictional narrations of crimes from multiple centuries. Sherlock Holmes was one of my favourites, however I quickly figured out that real life versions of these tales were far more intriguing. Ranging from the ever exciting O.J. Simpson murder trial , to the Graff diamond heist and locally the gruesome murder of Silvia King , to name a few.                Although sometimes morbid, I cannot help wanting to learn more about such cases. I want to delve a little deeper into past and present criminal works, while taking up the challenge of making it a public blog. Happy reading!
